Culture & Sightseeing

Seville’s city is the largest in Spain and one of the most famous old cities in Europe, along with Venice and the old town of Geneva.
The old town is dominated by narrow streets. The Santa Cruz district is particularly picturesque. Among those there are the Plaza de San Francisco (Constitution Square) with its magnificent buildings, Plaza del Duque with its promenade, Plaza de la Encarnación, the Museum Square with Murillo’s bronze statue and the Quemadero, where the autodafés took place.

Sevilla’s Highlights

The busiest street is the snake-like winding Calle de Sierpes. Among the houses, there are numerous palatial courtyards, mostly built in the ancient Roman style, with marble panelling, and oriental forms predominate in the historic city. Many buildings have flat roofs almost throughout and are rarely higher than two Storys. Since 1852, the suburb Triana is connected with the main city centre by the Puente de Isabel II. Seville has numerous public fountains, which are mainly supplied with water by the ancient aqueduct Caños de Carmona consisting of 410 arches. In addition, there are more than 130 churches apart from the cathedral. Not far from this is the Museo del Baile Flamenco, the only flamenco museum in the world, initiated by Cristina Hoyos Panadero.

Culinary delights

Seville is considered the place of origin Tapas, small, large, cold or warm snacks that are always served with an alcoholic drink. Sweet specialities from Seville are pestiños, cortadillos, tortas de aceite, torríjas. Almost all these specialities have their origin in Moorish recipes.
